Fine Line Tattoos in San Diego
Bay Ink's fine line tattoo artists work across two San Diego studios. In La Jolla, on Girard Avenue, Ruby De Leon tattoos fine line, script and micro-realism, and Gerson fine line and realism. In Bay Park, on Morena Boulevard, Wanessa specializes in fine line floral work and Jorge Martinez in fine line and single needle. Choose an artist, then send your idea or book a consultation.
What fine line tattooing is
Fine line tattoos use very small needle groupings, often a single needle, to make crisp, thin lines. The style suits floral and botanical pieces, script and lettering, small symbols, delicate ornamental patterns and micro-realism. Fine line puts less ink in the skin than a bold traditional tattoo, so size, spacing and placement matter more. Your artist will talk all three through with you before you book.

Placement, size and healing
Fine line tattoos need a little more room than most people expect. Very small text and tightly packed detail can lose definition as a tattoo heals and settles, so your artist may suggest sizing a design up or spacing it out. High-friction spots like palms, fingers and feet are hard on delicate linework. Once your tattoo is healed, keep it out of direct sun and use SPF 30 or higher. Follow your artist's instructions and read our tattoo aftercare guide.

Fine line tattoo questions
How much should a fine line tattoo cost?
At Bay Ink, your artist quotes each fine line tattoo based on size, detail and placement. The shop minimum is $180, and small pieces start there. Deposits run $100 to $500 depending on the project and are credited toward your tattoo.
How long do fine line tattoos last?
A well-designed fine line tattoo can stay clear for many years. Very thin lines placed too close together can blur as ink settles, so our artists space linework and size designs to keep them readable. Sun protection once the tattoo is healed, and avoiding high-friction spots, both help it last.
Where can I get a fine line tattoo in San Diego?
At Bay Ink, Ruby De Leon and Gerson tattoo fine line at the La Jolla studio on Girard Avenue, and Wanessa and Jorge Martinez at the Bay Park studio on Morena Boulevard. Both studios are open daily from 11 AM to 6 PM, so look through each artist's portfolio and choose the one whose work matches your idea.
Can I get a small fine line tattoo as a walk-in?
Sometimes. Both studios take walk-ins when an artist has open time, and small, simple designs are good walk-in candidates. Call ahead: Bay Park (619) 359-4107, La Jolla (858) 352-6295. Detailed custom designs are better booked, so your artist has time to prepare.
